2. Lift and Insert the Sheet
Carefully lift the infant holding his feet or ankles to place a fresh sheet under him. Make him lie down on it comfortably before starting with the changing process. This will save your mattress and bed sheet from getting dirty.
3. Remove the Old Diaper
Once you have placed the baby on a washable sheet, remove his old diaper by opening it gently and lifting the baby by his feet. Throw it if it is a disposable one or put it for washing in case of cloth diaper. Clean the diaper area of the baby using the wet cloth, cotton or baby wipes from front to back. This is important to wash off all the germs on his skin. Dry the area and apply some ointment or cream to avoid rashes and itching if needed.
4. Place the Fresh Diaper
Now place the new diaper under him in such a way that the long strips come on the same level as his belly button. Take the front end of the diaper on his stomach taking it from between his legs. Ensure that the adhesive portion doesn’t touch his sensitive skin.
5. Fasten the Diaper
It is time to pull the long strips on the either side and fold them and fasten them using the adhesive on the diaper or safety pin. Place you fingers in between his belly and diaper to ensure that pin doesn’t touch his skin.
